The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has renewed its commitment to ensuring more girls are equipped to succeed in the information technology (IT) sector.
Speaking at an ICT quiz competition for senior secondary school girls organized by the Nigerian Women in Information Technology (NIWIIT), NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta, stressed the importance of empowering the girl child with the skills needed to compete in the digital world. Prof. Danbatta, represented by Nafisa Usman Rugga, Head of Digital Media Management at the NCC, emphasized that access to IT tools and knowledge is crucial for gender balance in the tech space.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the NCC’s mission to expand broadband access, build capacity, and ensure inclusion for women, particularly in rural and suburban areas.
“This program supports our goal of improving connectivity, building skills, and fostering gender equality across the country,” Danbatta said. The event was held to mark International Girls in ICT Day, a global celebration aimed at encouraging more young girls to explore opportunities in technology.
