The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given Nasarawa State a free wireless internet setup at one of its universities. This is in recognition of the new Right of Way Regulation 2023 that was recently passed.
Governor Abdullahi Sule shared this news during a meeting at the Government House in Lafia.
According to reports, the new regulation, which started on December 29, 2023, removes fees for setting up and maintaining telecommunications facilities in Nasarawa.
Governor Sule mentioned that Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, announced the award as a way to appreciate the new law, which is seen as an important move for boosting the digital economy. The award includes a 10km fiber network, a network operating center, a power bank with a 10kva hybrid inverter, 240 Mbps of free internet service, and one free internet line, all to be set up at a selected university in the state.
Governor Sule also recalled that a similar initiative benefited Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic (IMAP) during Professor Isa Pantami’s time in office.
