The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has suspended referee Wilfred Charway from officiating in Nigeria National League (NNL) matches due to controversial officiating.
The decision came after Charway’s performance in the match between Solution FC and Godswill Akpabio FC in Awka on February 15, 2025. He allegedly awarded an unjustified penalty, which the NFF ruled was not in line with the Laws of the Game.
The Refereeing Development Committee stated that Charway’s actions unfairly influenced the match outcome and damaged the integrity of the competition. His officiating sparked criticism from teams and fans alike.
In a letter signed by Committee Secretary Mohammed Ameenu, the NFF confirmed Charway’s immediate and indefinite suspension from the league. The directive aims to uphold fair play and discipline among referees.
The NFF emphasized its commitment to ensuring professionalism in Nigerian football and warned that further violations of officiating standards would be met with strict sanctions.
This suspension serves as a reminder to referees about the importance of impartiality and adherence to the rules in all league matches.
