Philip-Shaibu, crowned Queen of the Green for the 2024/2025 season, became the first player to secure consecutive wins as the ladies’ overall match play champion at the prestigious tournament.
In a statement from Abuja, Runsewe lauded her achievement as a milestone for women’s golf in Nigeria and emphasized the NGF’s commitment to promoting inclusivity in the sport. “The NGF actively encourages women’s participation in golf, recognizing its physical and mental benefits,” he stated.
He highlighted the global rise in women’s golf, noting that participation in the United States has surged by 23% since 2018, a trend mirrored in other countries. “Nigeria cannot be an exception,” he added, calling for grassroots programs to introduce more young girls to the game.
Runsewe also praised Philip Shaibu for supporting his wife’s golfing career, stressing the importance of men encouraging women’s participation in sports. “Golf enhances cardiovascular health, reduces stress, and provides valuable networking opportunities,” he noted.
He concluded with a message of encouragement: “Once again, let me sincerely commend you for this outstanding achievement. Fairway greetings!”
