Nigeria Launches Automated Landing, Exit Cards to Streamline Travel, Boost Security

The federal government of Nigeria has introduced automated landing and exit cards as part of its broader e-Visa solutions, aiming to improve national security and ease travel procedures.

During a joint press briefing in Abuja, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), and Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced that the system will take effect on May 1, 2025. The initiative replaces the previous manual process with an online system that requires travelers to complete digital entry and exit forms before boarding.

Keyamo emphasized that the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to inter-ministerial collaboration, while Tunji-Ojo highlighted its importance for national security and border protection. He noted that the system would make it easier for legitimate travelers to enter Nigeria while ensuring stricter monitoring of movements in and out of the country.

The new e-Visa framework will be enforced in collaboration with key agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Airlines will be responsible for ensuring compliance before passengers board their flights.

Officials say the initiative reflects Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance security and streamline immigration processes.
