Nigeria Launches ‘Swim to Future’ Championship

In a groundbreaking move to promote swimming among children, the Nigeria Aquatics Federation has officially unveiled the ‘Swim to Future’ Kiddies Championship, a program aimed at discovering and nurturing young swimming talents across the country.

The championship is set to take place from February 28 to March 1, with a target of identifying and grooming at least 100 promising young swimmers by 2025. This effort marks a major step toward investing in the future of Nigerian aquatics.

Speaking at the launch event in Abuja, the federation’s president, Chinoye Daphey Aliyu, expressed excitement about the program’s potential to transform swimming in Nigeria. He emphasized the need for proper training, mentorship, and regular competitions to help young talents compete internationally.

“With the right training, mentorship, and opportunities, our young swimmers can rise to compete at the highest levels,” Aliyu said, highlighting the federation’s commitment to providing professional guidance and competitive platforms for children interested in the sport.

The ‘Swim to Future’ program will initially launch in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), serving as a pilot phase before expanding to other states. The goal is to ensure that every talented child, regardless of location, has access to opportunities in competitive swimming.

The initiative has already attracted interest from sponsors and stakeholders, signaling strong support for the federation’s vision of building a new generation of world-class Nigerian swimmers.
