The federal government is seeking China’s assistance to diversify Nigeria’s economy, with a strong focus on industrialization and key infrastructure development.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, revealed this during a meeting in Abuja with the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai. The discussion centered on strengthening economic ties between both nations.
She emphasized Nigeria’s longstanding relationship with China, which has spanned over five decades, and aligned the collaboration with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’, which prioritizes economic diversification and industrial expansion.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu outlined key areas where Nigeria seeks China’s support, including the establishment of electric vehicle plants, digital communication, renewable energy, advanced digital technology, and agriculture. She highlighted these sectors as crucial for sustainable economic growth.
She also acknowledged China’s major contributions to Nigeria’s infrastructure, particularly in road and rail development. Additionally, she noted that Nigeria is actively working on improving its power sector and modernizing its ports to attract more investments.
With both countries deepening their economic partnership, Nigeria hopes that China’s expertise and investments will accelerate its industrialization and economic transformation.
