The president of the Nigerian-American Institute for Mental Health (NAIMAH), Azubuike Aliche, has expressed concern over the mental health and general wellbeing of Nigerians.
Aliche made this known while speaking with Pulsewireng after the institute donated cartons of mental health medications to the Abia State government in Umuahia, the state capital.
Represented by a member of the institute, Justice Nwogu, Aliche said the group fully supports the ongoing transformation in Abia’s health sector.
He stressed that mental health is often overlooked in Nigeria, and NAIMAH hopes its donation will help improve access to much-needed care.
Receiving the medications, Abia’s commissioner for Health, Enoch Ogbonnaya, described mental healthcare as vital to the development of any society.
Ogbonnaya thanked NAIMAH for the donation and called on other organizations to show similar support for the state’s health programs.
