Nigerian Army has established a General Court Martial to try five officers and 20 soldiers for various offences under the jurisdiction of the 82 Division in Enugu State.
Brigadier General Buhari Sadisu, President of the Court Martial, inaugurated the proceedings, stating that the tribunal was convened by Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the division.
Sadisu emphasized that the Court Martial is a key tool for maintaining discipline within the military. He noted that the process ensures accountability and upholds the integrity of the armed forces.
He explained that military personnel accused of violating applicable laws are given a fair trial. If found guilty, they face appropriate punishments as outlined in military regulations.
The trial is expected to set a precedent for discipline within the Army, reinforcing the importance of adherence to military laws and professional conduct.
The Court Martial will proceed with hearings in the coming days, with legal representatives ensuring due process is followed.
