Nigerian Policeman Emerges Best Graduating Student In China

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday, received Sergeant Peter Theophilus Tanko at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, celebrating his academic achievement as the best graduating student at a Chinese university.

Tanko, an officer with the INTERPOL unit at the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), recently completed a five-year law programme at Jiangsu Police Institute in China under a government scholarship. He began his studies with a one-year Chinese language course at Nanjing Normal University before proceeding to earn his law degree.

Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement that Tanko’s performance stood out among his peers, earning him the honour of delivering the valedictory speech for all international students during the June 2023 convocation.

IGP Egbetokun praised Tanko’s academic excellence, describing it as a proud moment for both the Nigeria Police Force and the country. He emphasized the importance of professional growth and pledged continued support for officers seeking further education and global exposure.

“This remarkable feat is a testament to the potential within the Force,” the IGP stated. “Sergeant Tanko’s dedication and discipline should serve as inspiration to others.”

The Police Chief urged officers nationwide to follow Tanko’s example by investing in intellectual development alongside operational training, noting that a stronger, more competent police force requires both brainpower and boots on the ground.
