The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Akutah Pius Ukeyima, has said that the maritime sector has the potential to generate over $30 billion annually once fully developed.
He made this statement over the weekend in Abuja while receiving the “Regulator of the Year” award from Top 10 Magazine.
Ukeyima highlighted that recent reforms by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly the creation of the Marine and Blue Economy Ministry, have positioned the sector for significant growth.
He also noted that the Nigerian Shippers’ Council is focused on evolving into a Port Economic Regulatory Agency, addressing a key gap in the sector since reforms began in 2007.
