Despite an early setback in the Magical Kenya Open at Muthaiga Golf Club, Nigeria’s Sunday Olapade remains optimistic about his chances of earning prize money in the European Tour event.
Olapade, representing Lagos Ikoyi Club, secured one of the final three spots in the tournament, marking Nigeria’s return to elite golf since Oche Odoh’s participation in 2024.
After posting a +6 score in the opening rounds, he now looks to his second round to improve his standing and fight for a share of the winning purse and world ranking points.
“I will give it a fight, but my joy is that I am able to speak for my colleagues back at home with this performance. Nigerian golfers have come of age,” Olapade stated.
He finished behind Deus Willy and Paul Chidale in the qualifiers but remains determined to make an impact in the main event.
With one more round to prove himself, Olapade is eager to keep Nigeria’s presence strong on the international golf stage.
