The internal crisis within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has escalated following the party’s 54th National Convention held in Lagos. In a communique issued after the convention, the NNPP reaffirmed the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Engr. Buba Galadima, and the Ahmed Ajuji-led National Working Committee (NWC).
The communique, signed by the Convention Committee Chairman, Engr. Mohammed Babayo Abdullahi, stated that the convention upheld the results of the recently concluded nationwide congresses at the ward, local government, state, and zonal levels. It also endorsed the decision of the Board of Trustees (BOT) to reinstate Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major as the leader of the NWC and retain the NNPP Constitution as amended in 2022.
Additionally, the convention called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enforce the November 1, 2024, judgment of the Abia State High Court, which mandates the recognition of Dr. Agbo Major Gilbert’s NWC and the removal of the expelled Ahmed Ajuji-led faction.
The developments highlight the deepening divisions within the NNPP as it struggles to resolve its leadership crisis.
