Northern Leaders Urged to Unite for Progress

Hon. Abdullahi Shu’aibu, has expressed concern over the lack of regional support among Northerners, particularly for leaders from the North East geopolitical zone. He warned that such divisions hinder the region’s collective progress.

Speaking with Pulsewireng Weekend in Bauchi, Shu’aibu reacted to recent criticisms directed at the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, calling them unwarranted and counterproductive. He described the attacks as a pattern where Northerners undermine their own, particularly those from the North East, whenever they assume national positions.

“Anytime a citizen from the Northeast is appointed to a national role or federal position, some of his kinsmen from the North are the first to undermine or reject his leadership,” Shu’aibu lamented. He argued that this attitude weakens the region politically, socially, and economically.

Referring specifically to the public criticism from Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed against Ribadu, he stressed that such internal conflicts only fuel disunity and serve no productive purpose. He maintained that constructive dialogue, rather than public condemnation, would better serve the North’s interests.

Shu’aibu called on Northern leaders and influential figures, including Mohammed, to shift their focus toward fostering unity and regional development. He emphasized that internal divisions only weaken the North’s collective voice at the national level.

With growing concerns over regional disunity, stakeholders are urging Northern elites to prioritize cooperation over personal and political rivalries for the betterment of their people.
