A 20-year-old man identified as Umar Auwal, popularly known as ‘Abba Dujal,’ has voluntarily turned himself in to the Kano State Police Command. Authorities say Auwal is suspected of being behind a wave of violent crimes across Kano and parts of neighboring Jigawa State.
According to the police, Auwal confessed to a series of killings, armed robberies, and thefts involving motorcycles and mobile phones. He resides in Wudil Local Government Area and has admitted to several attacks, including fatal stabbings and robberies that shocked local communities.
Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspect’s surrender came after a series of aggressive police raids on criminal hideouts. “These operations are aimed at restoring law and order and protecting lives and property,” he explained.
Auwal reportedly confessed to stabbing a man nicknamed ‘Boka’ in Sabon Gari Quarters, stealing his Infinix Hot 40i, and selling it for N40,000. He also admitted to murdering another victim in Kurna Quarters and selling the victim’s Samsung S26 for N160,000.
In Jigawa’s Ringim area, the suspect confessed to killing a man and selling his motorcycle for N300,000. He is currently in custody at the Homicide Section of the State CID, where further investigations are ongoing to confirm his claims and identify possible accomplices.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, praised Auwal for turning himself in and urged other criminals to follow suit. “We remain committed to making Kano safer for everyone,” he stated, while urging residents to continue sharing useful information with law enforcement.
