The chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Tafa Sego, has publicly addressed the recent assault of a female driver in Ajah. On Monday, he hosted the victim, Miss Yetunde Amole, at the union’s headquarters in Oko Oba, Agege.
During the meeting, Sego strongly condemned the attack, describing the incident as unacceptable and distancing the NURTW from the actions of the assailant. “The individual involved is not one of us,” he clarified, stressing that the suspect is a known area boy with no ties to the union.
Miss Amole was welcomed with respect and taken directly to the chairman’s office. In a show of solidarity, Sego suspended his official schedule to personally receive her, praising her for her courage and professionalism.
He assured Miss Amole that the union stands firmly against harassment of any kind. “No NURTW member will harass or intimidate you,” he promised, encouraging her to continue her work with confidence.
Sego praised the Lagos State Government and Police Command for their prompt response in arresting the suspect. “We will ensure that Yetunde Amole gets justice in this instance. This will serve as a strong warning to others not to harass any driver in the state,” he stated.
He ended the meeting with a stern warning to NURTW members: “We have zero tolerance for harassment. Anyone who disrespects this principle is not welcome among us.” He also called on the public to respect the rights of all transport workers across the state.
