NURTW Crisis: Baruwa Faction Demands Eviction of Headquarters Occupants

The Tajudeen Baruwa-led faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has urged the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to remove those occupying the union’s national headquarters.

At a press briefing in Abuja, Baruwa’s legal representatives, Babaleye & Co., accused a rival faction led by former NURTW president, Najeem Usman Yasin, of unlawfully seizing the headquarters with the help of police officers and hired thugs.

According to lead counsel Tolu Babaleye, Baruwa was duly elected in 2023, but the opposing faction disregarded legal channels and instead set up an illegal caretaker committee.

Baruwa took the matter to the National Industrial Court, which ruled in his favor on March 11, 2024, dissolving the caretaker committee. He now seeks enforcement of the judgment and a return to office.
