NURTW Crisis: Baruwa Faction Demands Police, DSS Intervention to Reclaim Headquarters

The Tajudeen Baruwa-led faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to evict the current occupants of the union’s national headquarters.

Speaking through his legal representatives, Babaleye & Co., in Abuja on Tuesday, Baruwa accused a rival faction, led by former NURTW president Najeem Usman Yasin, of unlawfully seizing the office with police support after his legitimate election in 2023.

Baruwa stated that instead of resorting to violence, he took legal action, leading to a ruling in his favor. In March 2024, the National Industrial Court dissolved the caretaker committee set up by the opposing faction, reaffirming his presidency.
