Gyany Nyango, Nigeria’s top finisher at the 10th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, has set his sights on breaking the international dominance at the event by securing a podium finish in 2026.
Nyango finished the race in a personal best time of 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 40 seconds, earning him the eighth spot overall and the prestigious title of the fastest Nigerian runner. His effort also came with a N2 million reward.
Speaking after the race, Nyango expressed pride in his progress and determination to push even further in the coming years.
“Honestly, I am overjoyed because this is my first time finishing in the top 10,” Nyango said. “This is my third year competing, and I’ve been training hard to match the elite athletes.”
Nyango believes it’s time for Nigerian runners to step up and challenge the international dominance that has long defined the Lagos Marathon’s top rankings.
With his confidence growing and his training intensifying, Nyango hopes his success will inspire other local runners to dream bigger and aim higher in future editions of the race.
