In a surprising political shift, the leadership of the Obedient Movement, once strongly aligned with Peter Obi, has officially collapsed all its structures into the Nationwide Tinubu Connect Associates (NTCA). The decision was made over the weekend during a high-level strategy meeting in Lagos.
Alhaji Ahmad Abulfathi, leader of the movement, announced the move alongside 36 state coordinators representing the group’s national, zonal, and grassroots arms. According to them, the merger aims to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, held with NTCA’s National Leader, Henry Nwabueze, marked a turning point for the movement, signaling a shift in loyalty and direction. Abulfathi confirmed the alignment was carefully considered and driven by a shared national vision.
“We are proud to align with the Nationwide Tinubu Connect Associates to ensure that Nigerians benefit from the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu while completing two terms in office,” he stated in a press release.
In a bold appeal, the movement also called on Peter Obi and other 2027 hopefuls to step aside. “In the spirit of fairness and unity, we urge Mr Peter Obi and other intending contestants for the 2027 presidential election to jettison their ambitions,” Abulfathi said.
The move is expected to stir reactions within the political landscape, especially among core Obi supporters and members of the Labour Party, many of whom still view the 2023 race as unfinished business.
