Olowo of Owo Becomes Ondo Obas’ Leader

Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has appointed the Olowo of Owo, Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye II, as the new chairman of the State’s Council of Traditional Rulers. The announcement was made on Thursday at a special meeting held at the Obas’ Secretariat in Akure.

The appointment follows the end of the tenure of the outgoing chairman, the Deji of Akure, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II. Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the outgoing chairman for his leadership and contributions to the council.

“It is imperative to commend the outgoing chairman, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Adelusi, Odundun II, for providing transformative leadership. Kabiyesi, you have demonstrated capacity, love, and ingenuity in handling matters affecting the development of the state,” the governor stated.

Aiyedatiwa highlighted several achievements made under the outgoing leadership, including resolving chieftaincy disputes and implementing the state’s White Paper on traditional rulership. He also noted the abolition of the Grade ‘D’ Obas category, which upgraded all rulers in that group to Grade ‘C.’

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to supporting traditional rulers, pointing to the completion of the Council of Obas’ Secretariat as a major milestone. “This facility stands as a symbol of our love and respect for this esteemed Council and will provide a conducive environment for your deliberations,” he said.

Oba Ajibade, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to the governor and vowed to strengthen the relationship between the council and the state government. He praised Aiyedatiwa’s leadership style and pledged to uphold the dignity of traditional institutions in Ondo State.
