OPay Launches Scholarship at UNILORIN

Financial services giant OPay has expanded its ₦1.2 billion 10-year scholarship program to the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), reinforcing its commitment to education and youth empowerment in Nigeria. The move brings more students into the fold of a nationwide initiative aimed at supporting academically talented individuals facing financial hardship.

The scholarship, which now includes UNILORIN as one of its key beneficiaries, is designed to ease the burden of tuition and living expenses for deserving students. More than just a financial boost, the initiative reflects OPay’s broader mission to support long-term national development through education.

OPay Managing Director Dauda Gotring said the scholarship goes beyond helping students today—it’s an investment in Nigeria’s future. “This ₦1.2 billion 10-year scholarship program is not only about supporting today’s students but about investing in Nigeria’s future,” he said during the official announcement.

The agreement was formalized at UNILORIN through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant step in the growing partnership between the private sector and Nigeria’s education system.

UNILORIN Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, expressed deep appreciation for the support. “We would like to express our gratitude to OPay for their remarkable scholarship initiative to support our students here at UNILORIN. This initiative shows that OPay is aligning with the education agenda of the federation,” he stated.

OPay’s scholarship program has already reached several other institutions across the country and continues to grow. By stepping beyond its role as a fintech company, OPay is steadily building its identity as a major force in youth development and nation-building through strategic educational investments.
