Emeritus Professor Musbau Akanji, former Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has warned that constant overfeeding can lead to premature death.
Speaking at the first-ever pre-Ramadan lecture organized by the Muslim Women Wing of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, the renowned Professor of Biochemistry emphasized that excessive food intake harms overall health.
Akanji advised that smaller portions of quality food, eaten at regular intervals, are far better for healthy living than large, heavy meals.
During his lecture, titled “Family Nutrition During and After Ramadan,” he encouraged Muslims observing the fast to break it with light, fluid-based foods to aid digestion and ease metabolism.
He explained that the body functions best when food is consumed moderately, giving the digestive system time to process nutrients properly.
With Ramadan approaching, Professor Akanji’s message serves as a timely reminder for families to prioritize balanced meals and mindful eating, both during the holy month and beyond.
