The Oyo State government has officially launched the enrolment of 10,000 basic school pupils into the state’s health insurance scheme.
The enrolment, which covers pupils from 90 schools across 18 local government areas, was formally flagged off on Thursday at the Civic Centre, Idi-Ape, Ibadan, where the children were presented with their health insurance ID cards.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, described the initiative as part of the government’s commitment to ensuring pupils enjoy good health while learning in safe and conducive environments.
He commended the collaborative efforts between the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) and the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), noting that such partnerships are key to providing essential healthcare services to children in public schools.
According to Lawal, healthy children perform better academically, making the programme a crucial investment in the state’s future.
