Oyo State Enhances Security for Alaafin’s Coronation

Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025.

To ensure the safety and smooth flow of the event, security operatives have been strategically deployed across the ancient city and surrounding communities. Key areas such as Owoade, Jabata, Akesan, Isale Oyo, Eleekara, and the School of Survey have been heavily monitored with police vans and other security vehicles stationed at critical points.

A senior police officer confirmed that additional security personnel have been deployed to Oyo to prevent any disruptions during the coronation. “The police, in conjunction with other security agencies, are fully prepared to ensure a smooth and trouble-free event,” the source assured.

The coronation will take place at Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo, with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde expected to lead dignitaries, including notable Nigerians. Other venues for the event include Ladigbolu Grammar School, Durbar Stadium, the Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Mini Stadium, and the Alaafin’s Palace.

Dignitaries expected to attend include former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, ambassadors from four countries, Oyo indigenes based in Canada, traditional rulers, and diplomats.

In preparation for the influx of visitors, local hotels are fully booked, and many have upgraded their facilities to ensure a comfortable stay for guests. A hotel manager, speaking anonymously, mentioned that security agencies had guaranteed adequate protection for their premises.

To further accommodate the event, the popular Akesan market and other nearby markets will temporarily close, allowing local traders to fully participate in the coronation celebrations.
