Pantami Highlights 5G’s Role in Broadband Expansion at BTAF with Hologram Display

The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, underscored the importance of the Nigerian National Broadband Plan (NNBP) for national development during his address at the Broadband Technical Awareness Forum (BTAF) for Governors in Abuja on October 20, 2022.

In a groundbreaking demonstration of 5G technology, Pantami delivered his keynote speech through a real-time 3D hologram projection, powered by MTN Nigeria’s low-latency 5G network, enabling him to interact with the audience from a different section of the venue.

Pantami emphasized that broadband penetration, now at 44.68 percent, should be seen as a critical necessity for nation-building rather than a luxury. He highlighted the positive impacts of broadband access across sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture, stressing its potential for economic growth, job creation, and improved public service efficiency.

The forum, organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), continues to promote the strategic importance of internet connectivity to Nigeria’s economic and social progress.”
