PDP Faction Slams ‘Illegal’ Secretary Appointment

Daboikiabo Warmate, accused certain PDP governors, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), and the Board of Trustees (BoT), along with expelled party members, of trying to install an unqualified candidate against ongoing legal proceedings.

Warmate criticized the recognition of Hon. Sunday Ude-Okoye as the national secretary by the NWC, BoT, and PDP governors, rejecting Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s claim to the position. Despite the Supreme Court’s denial of Anyanwu’s stay of execution request, Warmate argued that any attempt to legitimize Ude-Okoye before the final verdict amounts to undermining due process.

He noted that even the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) advised waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision before any action on the party’s national secretaryship. Warmate questioned the urgency of replacing Anyanwu with Ude-Okoye, citing a Court of Appeal ruling (Appeal No. CA/E/24/2024) that directed all parties to maintain the status quo until the matter is resolved.

“The Supreme Court has instructed all parties to await its judgment. Why are these governors and their allies rushing to install someone accused of violating party guidelines?” Warmate questioned. He also accused the PDP’s South East leadership of failing to unify the region, instead focusing on sidelining Anyanwu.

The Concerned PDP League urged members at home and abroad to resist illegal maneuvers that could weaken the party before future elections. As of now, the PDP has not officially responded, but tensions within the party continue to escalate, raising concerns about its stability ahead of upcoming elections.
