The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved new dates for its postponed zonal congresses. The South-South congress will now hold on Saturday, April 12, 2025, while the South-West and North-Central congresses have been moved from March 22 to April 19, 2025.
According to PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the congresses will take place simultaneously in Port Harcourt (South-South), Ibadan (South-West), and Jos (North-Central) to elect zonal executive officers and national ex-officio members.
Meanwhile, the Conference of Professionals in the PDP (CP-PDP) has backed the NWC’s appointment of a South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee, calling it a necessary move to ensure party stability. The committee will assume leadership following the expiration of the current zonal executives on March 9, 2025.
Protem National Coordinator of CP-PDP, Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu, stated that the appointment aligns with the PDP Constitution and prevents a leadership vacuum in the zone. He urged the NWC to ensure a smooth transition and a speedy conduct of the zonal congresses.
The group also called on Elder Emmanuel Ogidi, leader of the caretaker committee, to work with South-South stakeholders to strengthen the party and ensure a successful congress.
“As professionals, CP-PDP recognizes and pledges to work with the Ogidi-led Zonal Caretaker Committee as appointed by the NWC to move our party forward,” the group stated.
