Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), the company securing the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP), has initiated measures to prevent further explosions along the pipeline, which transports crude oil to the Bonny oil terminal in Rivers State.
As part of its efforts, PINL has scheduled a stakeholder engagement with host communities and relevant groups along the TNP corridor. The meeting will involve representatives from 215 communities in Abia, Bayelsa, Imo, and Rivers States.
Dr. Akpos Meze, PINL’s community relations consultant, stated that the engagement aims to foster a sense of ownership among local communities and ensure the pipeline remains secure. He added that traditional rulers, youth leaders, and top political figures—especially from Rivers State—are expected to attend.
Meze emphasized that PINL remains neutral amid the political crisis in Rivers, which some have linked to pipeline vandalism. He said the goal of the engagement is to promote peace and boost oil production, thereby increasing Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Addressing concerns over a recent pipeline explosion in Bodo, Gokana LGA, Meze clarified that the incident was an act of sabotage. He assured that the company had previously maintained a zero-infractions record and aims to restore that status.
The consultant confirmed that repairs have been completed, stating, “The Trans Niger Pipeline has been fixed and is now operating at 100% output.”
