The Plateau State Government has provided relief materials worth millions of naira to victims of recent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area.
Leading a delegation of top government officials on Sunday, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Arch Samuel Jatau, described the attacks as well-coordinated and assured affected communities of the government’s commitment to their safety.
“We are here to see things for ourselves and assess the level of damage. It is unfortunate that innocent citizens are being attacked and killed. The state government, in collaboration with the federal government and security agencies, is taking measures to prevent future occurrences,” Jatau stated.
As part of the intervention, a medical team accompanied the delegation to attend to victims’ health needs, while essential relief items were distributed, including:
✅ Mattresses and sleeping mats
✅ Bags of rice, beans, and maize
✅ Blankets, soaps, noodles, and spaghetti
Mr Alo Raymond, District Head of Manguna, received the items on behalf of the victims and expressed gratitude to the state government and security agencies for their swift response. However, he urged authorities to deploy more security personnel to the area, especially as the rainy season approaches, to ensure farmers can return to their lands without fear.
The Village Head of Hurti, one of the affected communities, revealed that the attackers destroyed over 380 houses, displaced 1,000 residents, and looted food supplies and farm equipment worth millions.
Accompanying the SSG were key government officials, including:
Titus Alams – Special Adviser on Labour Matters
Istifanus Mwansat – Special Adviser on Special Duties
Commissioner for Budget and Planning
Commissioner for Health
Chairman of Bokkos LGA
The relief effort reflects Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s continued commitment to supporting victims and ensuring the safety and stability of Plateau State.
