By The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested one Umar Shaibu for allegedly assaulting a 22-year-old woman, Salamatu Yakubu, in the Jimeta area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest on Monday, stating it followed the circulation of a disturbing video showing the victim being brutally beaten. The incident, which occurred on March 13, 2025, reportedly took place in Angwan Tana, with Shaibu—identified as Salamatu’s uncle—seen physically abusing her.
The video sparked widespread outrage on social media, prompting calls from concerned citizens, NGOs, and civil society groups for Shaibu’s immediate arrest.
According to the police, the suspect was apprehended through the support of the public and effective community policing strategies.
“The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and is responding well,” Nguroje stated. He added that the suspect is currently in custody at the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where investigations are ongoing.
The Command pledged to ensure justice is served and confirmed that Shaibu will be prosecuted under relevant laws.
