Police Warn Against Unauthorized Camping, Hiking in FCT

The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned against unapproved camping and hiking in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), citing security risks and the need for safety precautions.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, stated that individuals and groups must inform the police before engaging in such outdoor activities. He warned that remote or unsecured locations pose significant risks and could be targets for criminal activities.

“The FCT Police Command hereby advises members of the public, especially youth groups, organizations, and hiking enthusiasts, to take necessary precautions before embarking on camping and hiking activities,” Adewale said.

Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh emphasized the importance of notifying law enforcement to receive guidance on safe routes and ensure adequate security measures. She also urged organizers to account for all participants to prevent cases of missing persons or other emergencies.

“To request security coverage, obtain advice on safe routes, or report any suspicious activities, members of the public are encouraged to contact the FCT Police Command through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, 08028940883,” she added.

The police assured the public of their commitment to enhancing security and urged compliance to prevent potential threats.
