Badmus Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was on Monday arraigned before an Upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on multiple criminal charges.
Portable was arrested on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command following a petition by veteran fuji musician, Saheed Osupa.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), Osupa accused Portable of criminal defamation, cyberstalking, inciting public disturbance, and criminal intimidation, alleging that the singer made defamatory remarks in live-streamed videos. He also claimed Portable falsely said he removed Osupa’s songs from streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, thereby harming his income and reputation.
At the hearing, the police prosecutor, Abubakar Issa, requested that Portable be remanded in a correctional facility pending the conclusion of investigations. However, Portable’s counsel, Barr. Adebayo Isaac, argued that the singer had already been granted administrative bail and posed no flight risk, citing Sections 172 (1) and 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
Presiding Judge, Hon. Sunday Adeniyi, ruled in favor of the defense and granted Portable bail in the sum of ₦1 million, with two sureties, one of whom must be a PMAN (Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria) chairman. The case was adjourned to April 30, 2025.
