Presidency Slams Ndume Over Appointment Claims

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has criticized Borno South Senator, Mohammed Ali Ndume, over his recent remarks alleging ethnic bias in the President’s appointments.

Onanuga, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday evening, labeled Ndume’s comments as “hypocritical” and “selective”, accusing the Senator of ignoring key facts for political theatrics. He stated that Ndume failed to acknowledge that two of his kinsmen were appointed to top positions in NNPC Limited, including the Chairman, who hails from his senatorial district.

“Senator Ali Ndume’s latest outburst on TV about so-called ‘lopsided appointments’ by President Tinubu reeks of hypocrisy and selective perception,” Onanuga said. “While he grandstands as a moral authority on equity, he failed to mention these key facts.”

The presidential aide dismissed Ndume’s claims as headline-chasing and rabble-rousing, alleging that the Senator often makes unfounded accusations that later turn out to be false. He maintained that Tinubu’s government prioritizes merit, integrity, and national balance in making appointments.

“The President’s appointments are—and will continue to be—based on merit, geographical spread, and a demonstrable capacity to serve Nigerians, not Ndume’s cherry-picked tribal arithmetic,” Onanuga stated.

The statement concluded with a call for Ndume to engage in constructive public discourse rather than resorting to misinformation and baseless criticism.
