President Bola Tinubu has officially inaugurated the governing boards of the South East and Northwest Development Commissions in Abuja, marking a major step toward addressing regional inequalities and fostering economic growth.
The commissions are designed to drive development in their respective regions by tackling infrastructure deficits, promoting investment, and enhancing social welfare. The initiative aligns with Tinubu’s broader vision for balanced national development.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, described the commissions as vital tools for unlocking the economic and cultural potential of both regions. He emphasized that their work would help bridge long-standing gaps in development.
Momoh also commended President Tinubu for his leadership and foresight in pushing for the commissions’ creation. He acknowledged the National Assembly’s role in swiftly passing the bills that made them possible.
The new commissions are expected to work closely with state governments, private investors, and local communities to implement targeted development projects that meet the unique needs of the South East and Northwest.
With the boards now in place, expectations are high that these commissions will deliver tangible improvements in infrastructure, job creation, and overall quality of life in the regions.
