Prince Kabir Olaoye has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court to challenge last Tuesday’s ruling by the Court of Appeal, which upheld the selection of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso.
Prince Kabir had initially filed a lawsuit in 2022, contesting Oba Olaoye’s nomination and selection, citing violations of the Soun Chieftaincy Declaration.
Despite the ongoing legal battle, Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde approved Oba Olaoye’s appointment, leading to his installation by the kingmakers in September 2023.
However, in October 2023, an Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso ruled against Oba Olaoye, nullifying his appointment as the Soun of Ogbomoso.
With the Court of Appeal now siding with Oba Olaoye, Prince Kabir is seeking a final judgment from the Supreme Court.
The legal dispute continues to create uncertainty over the rightful holder of the revered traditional throne.
