The House of Representatives has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate two former Permanent Secretaries in the Federal Ministry of Labour, Williams Alo and Yerima Tafa, over alleged financial misconduct involving N3.201 billion during their tenure.
The directive was issued by Hon. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the House Public Accounts Committee, during an investigative hearing on Monday. Salam revealed that the committee had sent seven letters to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, requesting their appearance to address 32 audit queries from the 2020 audit report. However, the ministry failed to respond or provide necessary documents to clear the allegations.
Salam expressed disappointment that the Minister of Labour and Employment consistently ignored invitations to appear before the committee. He emphasized that the Auditor General of the Federation had made specific recommendations, but the ministry’s refusal to cooperate left the committee with no choice but to involve anti-graft agencies.
The move underscores the House’s commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency in the management of public funds.
