The House of Representatives has ordered an investigation into the unauthorized linking of National Identification Numbers (NIN) by telecom service providers.
The decision came after a motion sponsored by lawmakers Patrick Umoh (Akwa Ibom) and Julius Ihonvbere (Edo), raising concerns over the illegal practice.
The House directed its Joint Committee on Communications and Interior to lead the probe, while also tasking the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to take action against any telecom provider found guilty.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has also been asked to confirm whether telecom operators had proper authorization for linking NINs.
