Two Nigerian governors—Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and Monday Okpebholo of Edo—as well as the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, were among several high-profile individuals celebrated by the Foreign Investment Network (FIN) at an international awards ceremony in Dubai. The event took place on April 9, 2025, at the Marriott Hotel Al Jaddaf during the prestigious Net Zero MEA Summit.
Governor Sanwo-Olu was recognized with the Distinguished FIN Outstanding Leadership Award, while Governor Okpebholo received the Emerging Governor of the Year Award for his efforts in driving sustainable development in Edo State. The Lagos State Commissioner for Energy, Biodun Ogunleye, accepted the award on behalf of Sanwo-Olu, saying Lagos’ growth proves its status as a preferred destination for investment.
The Oba of Benin, who personally received the Distinguished FIN Lifetime Achievement Award, used the platform to seek global investment for Edo State’s agriculture and real estate sectors. “We are actively seeking investment partners to drive the development of our agricultural and real estate sectors in Edo State,” he said, emphasizing the state’s readiness with vast land and potential for renewable energy solutions.
Dr. Olasupo Olusi of the Bank of Industry, Hon. Doris Uboh of the Rural Electrification Agency, and many other African and international dignitaries also received accolades for their transformative contributions in business and public service. Edo’s representative, Amen Odigie, spotlighted the state’s ongoing efforts in renewable energy, agriculture, and investment-friendly policies.
The evening drew leaders from around the globe, including Sheikh Juma’s advisor, global tech CEOs, and spiritual dignitaries, such as Princess Sikhanyiso of Eswatini and spiritual leader Padmashri Sadguru. FIN Chairman Dr. Olayinka Fayomi praised all honourees for their “stellar achievements and remarkable contributions.”
