Saudi Arabia Confirms Eid-el-Fitr Date

Saudi Arabia has officially confirmed the sighting of the new moon, marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal. With this, Eid-el-Fitr celebrations will take place on Sunday, coinciding with the first day of Shawwal.

The moon sighting was announced by the Haramain Sharifain X platform, signaling the conclusion of a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims worldwide. Eid-el-Fitr will be observed with prayers, feasts, and charitable acts across various communities.

According to Haramain Info, an official social media handle for Saudi Arabia’s religious authority, around ten observatories participated in confirming the moon sighting. This ensures alignment with Islamic traditions for determining significant religious dates.

Leading up to the confirmation, there was some disagreement among astronomical experts in Saudi Arabia. While five experts predicted that Eid-el-Fitr would be on Sunday, four others believed it would fall on Monday. The official sighting has now settled the debate.

Most of the world commenced Ramadan on March 1 after verifying the sighting of the new moon. The end of the holy month now paves the way for global festivities marking the joyous occasion of Eid.

With this announcement, millions of Muslims in Saudi Arabia and beyond are preparing for the celebration, which includes congregational prayers, family gatherings, and acts of generosity towards those in need.
