Senate President Godswill Akpabio influenced the judicial ruling that led to his removal from office.
In a statement released in Abuja on Thursday, Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, dismissed Abbo’s claims as “spurious and malicious.” He reiterated that Abbo was lawfully removed from the Senate by the Court of Appeal after due legal process found his election invalid.
Eyiboh emphasized that Akpabio, a lawyer and democrat, would never interfere with judicial matters. He also recalled that Abbo had previously retracted a similar allegation in 2023, making his latest claim even more questionable.
“It is regrettable that despite publicly retracting a similar allegation in 2023, Mr. Abbo has once again embarked on a campaign of misinformation and blame-shifting,” Eyiboh stated.
Regarding Abbo’s complaints about unpaid salaries, allowances, and official benefits following his removal, Eyiboh clarified that Akpabio does not personally oversee administrative payments. He explained that all financial disbursements follow due process and must be approved by the appropriate offices.
The statement further reminded the public of Abbo’s past controversies, including a 2019 viral video where he was seen assaulting a woman in an Abuja shop, which led to a court ordering him to pay N50 million in damages.
Eyiboh concluded that Abbo’s allegations were driven by “bitterness and desperation,” adding that Akpabio remains focused on governance, legislative leadership, and strengthening democratic institutions.
“We urge Mr. Abbo to respect the rule of law and focus on rebuilding the confidence of his constituents rather than resorting to baseless accusations and media theatrics,” he said.
