Comrade Isaac Balami, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a youth advocate. Balami argued that the backlash against the President’s son may have been fueled by speculations about his potential run for Lagos State governorship.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Balami, a former spokesperson of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and ex-national president of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, expressed his disappointment over the criticism. He said he initially considered writing directly to Seyi to commend his selfless humanitarian efforts but decided to address the issue publicly to counter misinformation.
Balami praised Seyi Tinubu for his dedication to unity and charity across Nigeria, regardless of religious or political differences. He noted that Seyi’s efforts to support the less privileged should be recognized and celebrated rather than condemned.
“The criticism of his recent visit to the North is unnecessary and politically driven. Those who criticize Seyi Tinubu are aware that his actions signify victory for young people and progress for the nation,” Balami asserted.
He emphasized that Seyi Tinubu’s charitable work, including his longstanding Iftar reach-outs, began years before his father became the nation’s president. Balami questioned why Seyi’s humanitarian acts should be seen as problematic simply because of his family’s political status.
“Nigerians should encourage young politicians and entrepreneurs to emulate Seyi Tinubu’s example rather than discouraging him. Even if his actions have political undertones, there is nothing wrong with supporting people genuinely in need,” Balami concluded.
