By Nigeria National League side Sokoto United has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Nigeria U-20 midfielder Abubakar Lawal.
The club’s media officer, Abdulsalam Ibrahim Imam, confirmed the news in a statement, revealing that Lawal, also known as El-Sharawi, passed away in Uganda.
“Sokoto United FC is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our former player, Abubakar Lawal,” Imam stated.
“On behalf of the club’s management, technical crew, and players, we extend our sincere condolences to his family, the people of Sokoto State, and the entire Nigerian football community. His contributions to the club and the sport will always be remembered.”
Lawal was a key figure for Sokoto United and had also represented Nigeria at the U-20 level, leaving a lasting impact on the game.
The club prayed for his soul, asking the Almighty to grant him mercy, forgive his shortcomings, and grant him eternal rest.
