Soludo Urges Return to Igbo Values, Rejects N44bn World Bank Loan

Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has called on Ndi Anambra and the entire Igbo community to return to the tribe’s core values of hard work, integrity, and enterprise as a pathway to genuine and sustainable wealth.

Speaking in Lagos on Saturday during the presentation of his three-year scorecard, Soludo lamented that the younger generation is abandoning the traditional Igbo apprenticeship model for get-rich-quick schemes like cybercrime, ritual wealth, and kidnapping.

“Our people must go back to the first principles of hard work and endurance,” he stated, warning that Anambra youths are being displaced in markets and business sectors once dominated by Igbos.

He hailed the Igbo apprenticeship system as a model of empowerment and entrepreneurship, where successful businessmen train and support their future competitors.

On the economy, Soludo said Anambra has cut state spending by 65% compared to 2013 and has not borrowed since his administration began. He also rejected a World Bank loan of N44 billion, describing it as “the most expensive fund in the world.”

“It didn’t meet our criteria of being concessional and tied to project financing,” Soludo said, noting Anambra was the only state that opted out of the deal.
