The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, met with the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, on Wednesday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations.
Tajudeen, who welcomed Mills and U.S. Embassy officials, expressed his commitment to deepening cooperation between the two countries. In a statement, the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, quoted Tajudeen as saying, “I have no doubt that you are the right person at the right time to enhance the strong relationship between America and Nigeria. You can count on our full support as you embark on this important mission.”
The Speaker also expressed his pleasure in receiving “the newest Ambassador of the United States of America” and thanked the U.S. delegation for visiting to discuss shared interests between the two nations. Tajudeen emphasised the need for “stronger ties, deeper cooperation, and a more mutually beneficial relationship.”
During the meeting, Ambassador Mills highlighted the importance of Nigeria, describing it as “Africa’s largest democracy” and one whose values are of significant interest to the U.S.
Mills added that the purpose of the visit was to engage with the Speaker on his priorities and those of the House.
