Tinubu Aide Alleges Ndume May Join Atiku-Obi Coalition

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, has claimed that Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South may soon dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) and join the emerging opposition coalition spearheaded by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

Speaking on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Bwala said, “Senator Ndume’s spirit and soul are with the coalition; it is his body that is in APC. He is already going.”

Bwala advised APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje to monitor Ndume closely, accusing the senator of acting against the party’s interests.

In a pointed remark, Bwala praised former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai for his straightforwardness. “It is better the way El-Rufai did—just say, ‘I am leaving.’ That gives more honour than staying to be a snitch,” he said.

The comments follow Ndume’s recent criticisms of the Tinubu administration, including opposing the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, and suggesting that the President should worry about losing former President Muhammadu Buhari’s support.

Tensions have been rising within the APC amid reports of an opposition alliance. On March 20, 2025, opposition leaders including Atiku, Obi, and El-Rufai revealed plans for a unified coalition aimed at unseating Tinubu in 2027, citing economic hardship and governance failures.

Political analysts note that the combined 2023 electoral strength of Atiku and Obi—over 12 million votes—exceeds Tinubu’s official tally by approximately four million votes.

As of press time, Senator Ndume has not responded to Bwala’s claims.
