Tinubu Appoints Leaders for New University

Senator Binta Masi Garba has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council. Garba, a former senator and experienced administrator, previously represented Adamawa North in the Senate from 2015 to 2019 and served in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011.

The newly appointed Governing Council members include Prof. Joseph Olurotimi Sanya, Mr. Efe Emefienin Emmanuel, Dr. Joyce Ogunyemi, and Alhaji Dahiru Abdullahi Ruma. The university’s principal officers are Prof. James Olugbenga Aribisala as Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Oluwole Olalere Dada as Registrar, Mrs. Adeniyi Rachael Ajayi as Bursar, and Prof. Isaac Oluwadare Busayo as Librarian.

A statement from Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Tuesday highlighted that Senate Leader Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele played a crucial role in advocating for the university’s establishment. President Tinubu urged the newly appointed officials to use their expertise to drive academic excellence, research, and institutional growth.

The university is set to admit its first group of students in September 2025. This development is part of the administration’s broader agenda to expand educational opportunities in Nigeria and enhance technological and environmental sciences.

Additionally, President Tinubu has appointed Prof. Muhammed Salihu Audu as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State. He takes over from Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami.

Prof. Audu, a seasoned academic and Professor of Mathematics at the University of Jos, previously served as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, where he spearheaded significant academic and infrastructural advancements.
