President Bola Tinubu has signed into law two Bills establishing the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State, and the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the approval on Thursday night, stating that the new institutions will help meet the country’s educational needs while promoting research and innovation.
According to Tinubu, the universities will serve as training centers for professionals in agriculture, science, and technology, ultimately boosting Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global economy.
The move is part of the administration’s broader effort to expand access to quality education and enhance the nation’s capacity for scientific and technological advancements.
With the establishment of these two institutions, Nigeria now has a total of 65 federal universities, further strengthening the country’s higher education landscape.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the decision, urging the government to ensure adequate funding and infrastructure for the new universities.
