Tinubu Congratulates Mark Carney on Election as Canada’s New Prime Minister

President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Mr. Mark Joseph Carney following his victory in Canada’s recent parliamentary elections and his emergence as the country’s 24th Prime Minister.

In a statement released by his spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Tuesday, Tinubu hailed the outcome as a hard-fought triumph that comes at a critical time for Canada. He noted that Carney’s wealth of experience makes him well-suited for the challenges ahead.

Carney, a respected economist, previously served as Governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and as Governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020. His leadership in global financial institutions is seen as a strong asset for his new role.

President Tinubu expressed optimism that Carney’s background in finance and governance would help steer Canada through current global uncertainties, while enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening relations with Canada, especially in key areas such as education, climate change, and migration policy.

Tinubu concluded by expressing his eagerness to build a forward-looking partnership with Carney’s government, expanding on the goodwill shared under the leadership of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
