President Bola Tinubu has asked the National Assembly to increase the proposed 2025 budget from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion. This request, made through separate letters to the Senate and the House of Representatives, comes just months after the initial budget was presented to lawmakers in December 2024.
Under the Nigerian Constitution, the National Assembly has the power to review and adjust financial estimates for the fiscal year. If approved, the revised budget would see an additional N4.5 trillion in spending.
The move has sparked discussions about the government’s priorities and how the extra funds will be used, especially as Nigerians continue to face economic challenges.
